Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum

MLMM-650x450To say the Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum is about more than classic boats, fishing memorabilia, and resort history is an understatement. Yes, the museum does feature all of the aforementioned items, but it is about far more than that. It’s about nostalgia, education, and community. It’s not just about preserving the past, but also about investing in the future.
“People are amazed when they walk in,” explains Bruce Olson, executive director of the museum. “They always say ‘thank you’ on the way out. It brings back a lot of memories for folks.”
Olson, who was a founding member of the museum, is passionate about making each visitor’s experience a profound one. It’s only been open for six years, but the museum has already expanded to include multiple buildings.
The museum is located at 205 3rd Avenue West in Alexandria. The scenic property is the perfect setting for an expansive garden project now underway. Visitors cross over a bridge to enter the Maritime Gardens and are immediately greeted by a waterfall, brook, and beautiful paver stones winding through a vibrant landscape.
