Lake Waconia in Carver County is a 2,996-acre lake that has a diversity of aquatic habitats which create a popular multi-species fishery. The lake is primarily managed for walleye, largemouth bass, and muskellunge and secondarily for bluegill, black crappie, and yellow perch. In 1988, a 16-inch minimum size limit was implemented for walleye in an effort to reduce the harvest of small walleyes. A population assessment was conducted in August 2008 to determine the abundance and size structure of the fish community.
