Whether you are looking for a nature getaway, an active family vacation or a pampered rest, Detroit Lakes – the “events place” – has options for everyone.

beach2The Mile-Long Sand Beach in downtown Detroit Lakes is a hot spot of the winter when ice fishermen create an ice town on the lake in the center of town. Another 400 lakes can be found within 25 miles.

With a population of about 8,000, Detroit Lakes is located at U.S. Highways 10 and 59 in Becker County and boats dozens of restaurants, including Mexican, Italian, Chinese and seafood.

Shoppers can find everything from antiques to candy in the community’s many specialty shops. Washington Square Mall or the discount supercenter.

Winter: There’s no need to hide indoors when the snow falls: Becker County has 250-plus miles of groomed snowmobile trails and another 100 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails at various area parks. Along with snowmobiling and skiing, the winter brings sleigh rides, curling, an International Hockey Camp, ice skating, sledding and sled dog racing.

Live Performances can be seen at The Historic Holmes Theatre, a renovated 837-seat facility providing music, dance and theater.

The Northwest Water Carnival features all events involving water, including water fights in the park and a parade where you squirt them or they squirt you!

The Annual Festival of Birds at Minnesota State Community and Technical Collge brings participants from 13 states and various countries. The Detroit Lakes area is at the convergence of three different biographical regions, so it is a prime location for viewing more than 250 species of birds.

Bird lovers can also visit the Tamarack National Wildlife Refuge, just 18 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes. It serves as a reintroduction and reproduction site for trumpeter swans in Minnesota and is also home to a healthy bald eagle population.

WE Fest at Soo Pass Ranch is the largest outdoor country music festival and campout in the Midwest.

Seven Area Golf Courses, with six of them being championship courses.

Education: A top rated school system with a high school, middle school, two elementary schools and a Minnesota State Community and Technical College campus.

Employment ranges from education and health care to engineering and manufacturing, including the production of quality control panels, fabrication, machining and tooling, custom home building and medical care products.
